Mrs. ALKA GOEL is a a house wife and mother of two grownup children doing satisfactorily in their chosen field respectively. Her educational profile read as M.Phil.(Math) with a gold medal . She started working as Tanjore artist almost 4 to 5 yrs back. With encouragement from my family and friends a hobby of childhood  has taken shape in form of these paintings .During her stay in south india she took some trainting in this field from masters to achieve it. Since the time she started working as Tanjore artist She has worked on number of painting varying in size and pattern .

This journey as an artist has made her richer in experience, the result of which is here in form of this website developed by her. She believes learning process is a constantly upward moving curve which never ends till death and this conviction encouraged her to start experimenting with ancient south Indian sacred Tanjore art. She fused the techniques of its style with her own ideas, inspired by north Indian patterns, the place I belong to.

More of her works can be seen at her website – Shree Tanjore Art

About Trish

Trish Burr is a self taught embroiderer. She was born and raised in Zimbabwe. In 2004 she moved to the Western Cape in South Africa with her husband and their three children.

In 1995 whilst still living in Zimbabwe, she acquired the DMC agency for the country. This proved to be the start of her love affair with embroidery. Like so many others, she began with cross stitch, but an attraction to botanical art soon led her to explore the possibilities of needle painting. This resulted in the completion of her first book, “Redoute’s Finest Flowers in Embroidery” published by Sally Milner in Australia. She has subsequently published two further books on needle painting and one on cross stitch. She teaches and gives talks at workshops and guilds in South Africa, and contributes internationally to needlework magazines and other publications.

Her projects are mainly floral but she has recently expanded her work to include birds and portraits, devising means to include minute details in her subjects. Her emphasis on light and shadow brings her embroidery alive and her artistic use of colour further enhances the three dimensional effects in her work.

Trish is recognized for her unique style of long and short stitch embroidery. She has spent many years researching this technique and willingly shares this knowledge with fellow embroiderers. To quote in her own words:

“We need to keep hand embroidery alive, but if we hug our ideas to ourselves, they will become lost and worthless in the future. If I give you a gift, I no longer have it, you do. However, if I give you an idea then we both have it, and if you share this idea with others then we have multiplied it, expanded on it and watch it grow.”

Featured Artist – Farah Ahmed

by Madhavi on June 13, 2009

Farah Ahmed, an ex-army wife is a homemaker and a home entrepreneur. Married for the last 12 years, she is also an artist who makes gift items and home decoratives.

201

Farah never took up art as a career though she was very much interested in art. An academic throughout her life, she devoted her time to her studies. Farah is an M.Phil. in History from JNU, New Delhi, and have completed her B. Ed. from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.

Being the wife of an army officer gave Farah the opportunity to travel and stay with her husband in the length and breadth of the country. She took up a job as a school teacher at first, teaching history. But frequent transfers also lead to change in jobs as well. After she became a mother, she wanted to spend as much time as possible with her son, and enjoy motherhood to the fullest. She decided to be a home maker, but she did not want to sit idle. As she was also an art lover, her love for arts and crafts resurfaced, and she started doing craftworks as a hobby.

203

In one of her new places of residence, Farah got a chance to work with AWWA (Army Wives Welfare Association), where she learnt a number of crafts being taught in the AWWA Vocational Institute. This triggered off her passion towards craftworks, and once her husband quit the Army, she decided to make this hobby into a career.

204

Farah now works from home. She is now based in New Delhi. She makes various types of handicraft gift items like coasters, paintings (madhubani, Warli, nib painting, Egyptian painting, etc.), murals, pen-stands, etc. She also make things on order, and put up exhibitions.

New Feature: Featured Artist – Sangeetha Narender

by Madhavi on April 30, 2009

Through Get Crafty I have been able to meet lot of interesting crafter’s from around the globe. So I will try to feature some of such craft lovers and their inspirations.

Sangeetha

Sangeetha Narender, happily married, proud mother of a cute little son, lives in Hyderabad, India. She is a homemaker and a designer, and also the creator of unique handmade jewelry made with a variety of beads.

Sangeetha says, “Designing and creating art in different forms was always one of primary interests. I was into trying different stuff on clothes, cutting sewing and doing patch works to make them personalized. I also dabbed my hands in glass painting, pencil sketching, canvas painting, acrylic and water color painting.”

new-115-1

Sangeetha’s passion for handmade ornaments and jewellery was inspired by one of her night visits to old Hyderabad during a Ramzan time, where she chanced upon some colorful beads in the Lad bazaar area. She bought some of them and used them combining with some other things to make ear rings, which got her a good number of compliments and many enquiries of where she got them from. This inspired her to work more on her artistic inclination, which in due course, also got her in touch with many people who are into production of colorful Glass beads and different variety of stuff related to fancy jewellery.

The interest to reach a wider audience brought Sangeetha into the world of blogs, where she started her own blog – http://diva-fo-ever.blogspot.com . Here she shares most of her interests, tips on some of them, and links to other blogs that she has found interesting.

Currently, Sangeetha is working on making a complete set of ensemble, beginning with colorful tops, with matching bracelets, ear rings/danglers, and necklaces for that chick look.

Watch out her blog for new posts and updates.

P.S~ If you have any questions for Sangeetha about her art work , please ask in the comments section so she can reply to you.
